Learn with Experienced Trainers at Psychodrama Australia Today

This website is designed to serve those interested or involved in exploring and learning about psychodrama, sociodrama, sociometry, role training. This includes all uses of action methods for group work, group training, group leadership, and group psychotherapy.

What we are up to

Psychodrama Australia seeks to awaken and strengthen the abilities of people in many settings to express themselves relevantly, responsively and creatively in the ordinary here and now situations in which they live and work. Training is pertinent to people interested in enlivening personal, interpersonal and group functioning in the fields of health, education, organisational development and creative arts.

The training deals with the experiences of the individual in groups and emphasises a systems approach to living. Trainees can expect to develop greater sensitivity and proficiency in interpersonal, group and inter-group relations.

In the past two workshops in the Stanwell Tops psychodrama training series, we have focused on the themes of potency and presence and the evolution of the director. This year we concentrate on improvisation and the capacity for encounter. Moreno considered that psychodrama naturally leads to encounter. Here is Moreno writing on this subject in Psychodrama Third Volume (1975:29):

Psychodrama enables the protagonist to build a bridge beyond the roles he plays in his daily existence, to surpass and transcend the reality of life as he lives it, to get into a deeper relationship with existence, to come as close as possible to the highest form of encounter of which he is capable.

Attitudes, Values and Concerns - Sociodrama - Navigating Multiple Relationships.
Boundaries, professional ethics, sex, money, conflicts of interest, dual relationships. In traditional societies these complicated matters are closely codified and norms taught and enforced. We live in a society where the traditional protocols between individuals no longer apply and are not passed on, even where there is token acceptance. This often bewildering and painful maze demands sophisticated abilities to negotiate.
Participating in this workshop will alert participants to potential conflicts of interest in their own world and in that of those around them. Action investigation and role-reversal, and perhaps some healing, will feature as we seek to develop more adequacy in navigating these cross currents.
